"You never know what you'll find at Granny's!"
An extraordinary thrift store that supports our
Vashon Health Center. Health Center Volunteers recycle donations
of clothing, housewares, furniture, electronics and much more, to
make them available to the community at bargain prices. Profits
directly support the Health Center and other medical-related needs. |
In 1973, when the Vashon-Maury Health services Center
was started in a house in Burton, a group of energetic women volunteered
to serve as receptionists. As the Health Center prospered, these
same women organized as "Health Center Volunteers" to raise funds
to support the Health Center.
The Idea for a thrift store caught on, and after a year in a building
that was previously a gas station, Granny's Attic moved to its current
location on the site of the Health Center in 1975.
Today, after nearly 30 years, Granny's Attic employs three full-time
and seven part-time people to help the 80 volunteers with sorting,
marking, repairing and selling recycled merchandise to those who
shop for bargains and treasures.
Over the years Granny's Attic has funded the clinic with $2.1 million!
Currently, Granny's Attic contributes $8,300 per month to Health
Center operations. Back to Top |
